Healthy Roots & Clean Boots

Hats off to Cadence Larson and the whole team at Swift SWCD for putting on a fantastic Healthy Roots & Clean Boots event on July 23rd at the Swift County Fairgrounds in Appleton, MN!

MNGLCA had a great time promoting good grazing and getting to know the community, and we loved checking out all the great vendors and displays showcasing soil health and conservation.

So many of the displays were interactive, which made the evening fun for kids and adults alike. One highlight was a delicious look at soil layers through a soft serve ice cream display, complete with gummy worms standing in for the critters that keep healthy soil alive.

Burgers were provided by the Glacial Ridge Cattleman's Association. The 4-H and FFA youth brought out education displays that got everyone thinking about the next generation of conservation-minded farmers and ranchers. Our friends at Millborn Seeds and the University of Minnesota were on hand with cover crop seeds and expertise, and a duo of brush-controlling goats gave a hands-on (and very entertaining) demonstration of how they tackle invasive buckthorn.

Events like this are exactly why we love partnering with organizations like Swift SWCD. Bringing soil health, grazing, and conservation education to families in such a hands-on way builds understanding that sticks.

Thanks to everyone who came out to say hi, ask questions, and learn more about good grazing practices. We're already looking forward to the next one!
